Nancy Landry to seek re-election for 2nd term in House

Lafayette
, LA - State Representative Nancy Landry (R) has announced she will seek re-election to a second term in the Louisiana State House of Representatives.

Landry, a Republican, represents District 31 which includes Lafayette and Vermillion Parishes. In a statement released today Landry reaffirmed her commitment and dedication to the families and interests of District 31 and Acadiana. She is a member of the House and Governmental Affairs Committee, the Civil Law Committee, and the Louisiana Innovation Council. She also has served on the Natural Resources Committee, which oversees an economic aspect that is vital to families and the economy here in our area of the state.

"I am a candidate for re-election in the upcoming October 2011 primary," said Landry. "People from across our district have encouraged me in this decision to represent the people of District 31 for the next four years in Baton Rouge.

Nancy Landry is completing her first term as State Representative and has earned a reputation for hard work and conservative principles. Serving on the powerful House and Governmental Affairs Committee, Landry helped craft and pass the new redistricting plan, which was approved by the United States Department of Justice with no adjustments. This was the first time in history that the Justice Department has given that approval to Louisiana.

Landry has taken a leadership role to have Cajuns designated and recognized on future census forms. Landry’s ancestors were among the first Acadians to relocate here from Nova Scotia.

She received high marks for her leadership in developing a redistricting plan for the Board of Elementary and Secondary Education (BESE). “Some plans would have adversely impacted our area of the state. One would have carved Lafayette Parish into three separate districts,” said Landry. “That would have diluted the role Acadiana would have in the education of our children. In the plan that I helped draw, Lafayette remains as whole as possible, and we have more of an influence in shaping the direction of elementary and secondary education in Louisiana. I will continue working to ensure Acadiana has a voice in the election of their public officials as we complete the process of redrawing district maps, not only for BESE, but also for Congress, Public Service Commissioners, and the state courts.”

In recognition of her work in the redistricting effort, the Louisiana Supreme Court recently appointed Representative Landry to serve on the Committee that will perform the preliminary work involved in redistricting the Judiciary.
