Nancy Landry is an award-winning Family Law Counselor, committed to the real issues facing Louisiana families. She was born on a US military base overseas. Her father was a Navy man from a big Vermilion Parish family. Nancy grew up in Lafayette. She graduated from Lafayette High with Honors in 1980. Nancy graduated from LSU in 1985 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology. Nancy then graduated from LSU Law School in 1990.
Nancy was elected to the Louisiana House of Representatives in a 2008 special election. She has steadily earned the respect of her legislative colleagues through her diligence and determination to improve the education, economic and political climate of Louisiana. She serves on the House Civil Law and Procedure Committee and the House and Governmental Affairs Committee. She is also a member of the Republican Caucus, the Acadiana Delegation, the Rural Caucus, the Legislative Women’s Caucus, and the Louisiana Innovation Council.
Representative Landry has proven herself to be a fierce advocate for Lafayette and Acadiana. She emerged as a leader in the redistricting effort, heading up the efforts to preserve the cultural communities of interest of the Cajuns and Creoles in Acadiana in the newly drawn Congressional districts. As a member of the House and Governmental Affairs Committee, which shouldered the critical responsibility of redistricting and reapportionment, Nancy helped craft and pass the legislative redistricting plan. That plan, for the first time in Louisiana's history, was accepted without exception by the U.S. Department of Justice.
Nancy also spearheaded the Louisiana Board of Elementary and Secondary Education redistricting, helping to preclude Lafayette from being carved into three separate districts. As a result, Lafayette and Acadiana have the opportunity to have a stronger role in shaping policies that directly affect the education of our children.
Recognizing her hard work in the redistricting process, the Louisiana Supreme Court recently appointed her to serve on the committee tasked with the preliminary work involved in redistricting the courts. In her private practice, Nancy has established an award-winning system she calls “Unbundled Legal Services”, which essentially provides reduced cost legal representation to families in crisis. She recently expanded her practice to include real estate law. Nancy is the mother of two teenaged boys.
