  • Working together to solve problems --Working with other members of the Acadiana Delegation to accomplish our common goals and to bring state resources back to our area to create jobs and improve infrastructure right here in Acadiana.
  • Opposing new taxes - Reducing wasteful spending and reducing bloated government agency budgets rather than raising revenue through new taxes.
  • Financial disclosure -  Continuing to improve ethics laws regarding transparency for elected officials and candidates for office and  limiting lobbyist spending on elected officials.
  • Reforming the outdated practice of tenure - We must find a better policy so that good teachers can be rewarded and ineffective teachers can be rehabilitated or fired.  The outdated practice of automatic tenure after three years on the job for teachers and bus drivers does not serve the needs of students.
  • Pension reform -- We can not afford to maintain government worker benefits that exceed those available to the the taxpayers in the private sector. We must move to defined contribution retirement plans for new government workers (like those available to workers in the private sector).  If we don't, we will not be able to keep our commitment to pay these pensions, as the huge unfunded accrued liability of these retirement plans diminish our state finances.  We also need to eliminate the practice of "double dipping", or retire/rehire, which allows some government workers to retire one day and return to work the next day collecting both wages and retirement checks.
